ユーフォニアムとピアノはお互いを補完し合う役割となっている。ただユーフォニアムの音の多くは12平均律に対して4分の1音ずれているため、ピアノとの間にピッチの齟齬があり、それが「正しいピッチ」を曖昧なものとしている。またピアノは通常奏法から逸脱していないのに対して、ユーフォニアムは所々で現代的な拡張奏法を用い、4分の1音の使用とともにピアノに対する「楽器の対位法」を実践している。2009年に作曲、小寺香奈、中川俊郎両氏によって初演。タイトルはヨルガオの学名。
The euphonium and piano serve complementary roles. However, since many of the euphonium’s tones are a quarter-tone off from the 12-tone equal temperament, discrepancies in pitch arise between the two instruments, rendering the notion of “correct pitch” ambiguous. While the piano remains within the bounds of conventional technique, the euphonium employs modern extended techniques in places, and together with the use of quarter-tones, enacts a kind of “counterpoint of instruments” against the piano.
Composed in 2009 and premiered by Kana Kodera and Toshio Nakagawa. The title is the scientific name of the moonflower.
